INSIDE THE DEPOT
Inside the depot, CCRA maintains and operates an HO-scale model railroad and an N-scale model railroad, which are open for public viewing whenever the outside train is running. The HO-scale railroad is approximately 12' x 24' in a "U" shape, with more than 200' of mainline track that runs through several miniature towns and numerous tunnels. Both analog (DC) and digital (DCC) operation are supported.
Members bring their own trains to run, so you never know what you're going to see in operation. Diesels share the track with steam engines, and passenger trains wait patiently behind slow-moving freights. Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, Western Pacific, and Virginia and Truckee trains share the rails, and you may see an occasional New York Central or even an Amtrak!
Interleaved with the mainline track is a 3' narrow-gauge railroad in a scale known as HOn3. This track connects the mining and logging displays on our layout, including a log pond and old-time lumber yard.
On the opposite side of the depot is an N-scale layout, approximately 20' long by 3' deep. This is our newest layout, and while it is very much under construction, you'll see its tiny trains running every operating day.
